2021 Chevrolet Trax
Looking to break into the SUV market without breaking the bank? A subcompact crossover is a great option, such as the Trax from Chevrolet. Check out what makes this model so appealing to buyers.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The 2021 Chevrolet Trax is a subcompact crossover SUV offered in two trim levels: LS and LT. From the outside, the LS trim level shows off 16-inch painted-alloy wheels outfitted with all-season tires, an acoustic laminated windshield, body-color accents, halogen reflector headlights, and solar-absorbing glass all the way around. Stepping up to the LT adds roof-mounted side rails, projector-beam headlights, LED daytime running lights and taillights, and deep-tinted glass.
Several exterior upgrades are available on the Trax as well. Options include 18-inch glossy-black alloy wheels, an upgraded black front grille, splash guards, keyless entry and ignition, and blacked-out trim. If you carry a lot of gear, consider adding the carrier mount to carry bikes or skis or the roof rack cross rails to the top. Outdoorsy buyers may want to consider the optional Lifestyle package, which bundles a cargo tray with an accessory carrier mount.
Engine (Power)
Both models of the 2021 Trax come with the same 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 155 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque. It works with a six-speed automatic transmission that powers the front wheels. All-wheel drive is available as an upgrade on either trim level.
Performance
Fuel efficiency is a top consideration for many auto shoppers, and the Trax doesn't disappoint in this area. Front-wheel drive models return an estimated 24 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway, for a combined estimate of 27 mpg. All-wheel drive drops the estimates just slightly. The turbocharger in the engine packs a great punch, delivering quick acceleration. The six-speed automatic transmission provides smooth shifting, while steady handling and a firm ride round out the performance elements of this capable SUV.
Interior
Although this SUV fits into the subcompact segment, the interior is spacious and comfortable for passengers of all sizes. Adults can easily fit into both rows of seating, while the cargo area offers 18.7 cubic feet of space. Folding the second-row seats down takes the cargo area's capacity to 48.4 cubic feet.
Standard interior equipment on the LS trim includes cloth upholstery, manually adjustable front seats, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, and manual climate control. It also comes with a six-speaker audio system with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone integration, two USB ports, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and a 7-inch touch screen. The LT trim adds upgraded upholstery and a functional storage area beneath the front passenger seat. Options include heated and power-adjustable front seats, faux leather upholstery, and all-weather floor mats.
Safety Features
Standard safety equipment on the 2021 Chevrolet Trax includes 10 air bags placed throughout both rows of seating, anti-lock brakes, a tire pressure monitoring system, a rearview camera, and stability and traction control. The Driver Confidence package is offered on the LT trim and includes side blind-zone alert, rear parking sensors, and rear cross-traffic alert.
