2022 Chevrolet Malibu
The 2022 Chevrolet Malibu is a midsize sedan that offers handsome styling, an efficient standard engine, a spacious interior, and an easy-to-use infotainment system. In addition, the Malibu comes with an affordable price tag. For the new model year, the base L trim is dropped, which leaves you with a choice of four trims.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The exterior design of the Malibu is sleek and elegant. You can choose from a range of sophisticated paint options, which include Dark Ash Metallic, Cherry Red Tintcoat, Mineral Gray Metallic, and Northsky Blue Metallic. For the new model year, the Malibu is available in four trims: the LS, RS, LT, and Premier. A Special Edition model is also available, which is equipped with 19-inch Black-painted aluminum wheels, Black front and rear bowtie emblems, and a blacked-out grille.
The base trim offers standard features such as 16-inch aluminum wheels, daytime running lights, halogen headlights, and power-adjustable side mirrors. With the RS trim, you receive 18-inch aluminum wheels, a rear spoiler, a Black grille and badging, dual exhaust outlets, and a rear spoiler.
Apart from 17-inch aluminum wheels, the LT trim is equipped with LED daytime running lights, LED taillights, and heated side mirrors. The range-topping Premier trim comes with premium features such as 19-inch aluminum wheels, side mirrors with turn-signal indicators, a dual-pane power sunroof, and LED headlights.
Engine (Power)
You can choose from two engines with the Malibu. The standard turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine is paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission and produces 160 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. For a more robust performance, opt for the Premier trim, which is powered by a larger 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. The engine pair with a nine-speed automatic transmission and has an output of 250 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel drive comes standard.
Performance
With the standard four-cylinder engine, you'll receive a fuel-efficient ride. The estimated ratings are 29 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway. The optional 2.0-liter engine delivers a slightly lower rating of 22 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. Apart from efficiency, the Malibu will also provide you with a comfortable ride. With light steering, a solid braking feel, and a suspension system that successfully smooths out those rough patches on the road, the Malibu offers a fine ride quality.
Interior
The cabin of the Malibu provides ample space for up to five people and you also receive a decently sized cargo area of 15.7 cubic feet. The standard 8-inch infotainment system is easy to use and offers standard features such as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, Wi-Fi hot spot capability, and six speakers. Other standard features include air conditioning, cruise control, keyless open and start, a rear-window defogger, and cloth upholstery.
The higher trims add a wealth of luxury items, which include power-adjustable front seats, a leather-wrapped and heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated front seats, and dual-zone automatic climate control. Depending on the trim, you can also expect satellite radio, ambient lighting, leather upholstery, heated rear seats, wireless device charging, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.
Safety Features
Available driver-assist features include adaptive cruise control, forward-collision alert, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, rear parking sensors, and front pedestrian braking.
