2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
The Chevrolet Silverado is a full-size pickup truck with a well-earned reputation for toughness. After the base trim, the 2022 Silverado offers an upgraded cabin and additional tech features that raise the line to new heights. See what the latest model has to offer.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The 2022 Chevrolet Silverado comes in a staggering nine trim levels: WT, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, LTZ, ZR2, and High Country. You also have a choice between three cab configurations — regular, double, and crew — and three bed sizes — standard, short, and long. Two- and four-wheel drivetrains are available for all.
Wheel size ranges from 17 to 20 inches depending on your trim. The exterior dimensions also vary widely depending on configuration, bed size, and trim. The largest overall is the standard-bed Trail Boss in the crew cab, which measures 242.4 inches long and 78.2 inches tall. The regular cabs are the smallest overall, at 229.7 inches long and up to 75.6 inches tall.
Engine (Power)
Chevrolet offers several engine options for the 2022 Silverado 1500. The base level gets you a 2.7-liter turbo that pairs with an eight-speed automatic transmission and generates 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. Two separate V-8 engines are also available — a 5.3- and a 6.2-liter EcoTec3 — which produce 355 and 420 horsepower, respectively, as well as 383 and 460 pound-feet of torque. The last option is a 3-liter inline-six turbo-diesel, which gets you 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. The latter three pair with 10-speed automatic transmissions.
Performance
Depending on your engine option and other configurations, the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado can offer some serious accelerating power. The 6.2-liter V-6 is the most impressive performer, capable of getting you from 0 to 60 mph in a little over 5 seconds.
As for towing, the Silverado continues to be among the best in its class. Its maximum towing capacity — attainable with the 6.2-liter V-8 and the 3-liter turbo-diesel — is 13,300 pounds. Even with less robust engines, the Silverado can pull upwards of 9,000 pounds.
The EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings vary wildly across engine options, drivetrain options, and certain features. Generally speaking, the 3-liter turbo-diesel in two-wheel drive is the most fuel-efficient, getting 23 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. From there, the fuel economy ranges down to 13/17 mpg for the 5.3-liter V-8 without M/T tires or dynamic fuel management.
Interior
Across all levels of the 2022 Silverado, you enjoy a spacious cockpit offering 44.5 inches of front legroom and up to 43.4 inches in the rear. While lower-level trims have largely minimalist interiors, the cabins become noticeably better decked out beginning at the LT level, which boasts a massive 13.4-inch Chevrolet Infotainment 3 Premium system with built-in Google functionality. Moving up, you get premium options such as leather upholstery and wood trim. Bluetooth, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay are compatible with all trims.
Safety Features
All 2022 Chevrolet Silverado have much to offer in terms of safety features. Even the base WT model comes equipped with rear park assist, hitch guidance, lane-change alerts, and rear pedestrian alerts. Moving up, standard and available features begin to include OnStar and Chevrolet Connected Services, bed-view and auxiliary trailer cameras, hitch guidance, and many more.
