2022 Chevrolet Suburban
Continuously produced since 1934, the Chevrolet Suburban is the longest-running nameplate in automotive history and regularly one of the most popular full-size SUVs on the market. See what the 2022 model contributes to this well-established line.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The 2022 Chevrolet Suburban comes in six trim levels: LS, LT, RST, Z71, Premier, and High Country. Across all trims, the exterior dimensions measure 225.7 inches long, 75.7 inches tall, and 81.1 inches wide minus the side mirrors. The LS and LT come standard with 18-inch wheels, the Z71 and Premier with 20-inch wheels, and the RST and High Country with 22-inch wheels. Metallic options are also now available among the exterior color choices — Satin Steel, Auburn, Empire Beige, Midnight Blue, Dark Ash, and Evergreen Gray.
Engine (Power)
Chevrolet offers three engine options for the 2022 Suburban. The base engine is a 5.3-liter V-8 that generates 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. The next level up brings a 6.2-liter V-8 with 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. Finally, there's the 3-liter inline-six turbo-diesel, which gets you 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. Each engine type pairs with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Both two- and four-wheel drivetrains are available at all levels.
Performance
Both V-8 options for the 2022 Suburban offer excellent acceleration for a full-size SUV, taking the vehicle from 0 to 60 mph in around 6 to 7 seconds depending on your trim level and drivetrain option. On the road, the steering responds well to driver inputs and the vehicle's suspension does well in soaking up common rattles and bumps.
If you're looking to pull some weight, the 2022 Suburban has you covered. Providing that you've opted for the trailering package, you can tow a maximum capacity of 8,300 pounds with the 5.3-liter V-8 in two-wheel drive. Even at the lowest end, minus the package, you can pull 7,400 pounds with the 6.2-liter V-8 in four-wheel drive.
Fuel economy ratings vary depending on your engine and drivetrain options. The turbo-diesel in four-wheel drive is the most efficient at 27 and 26 mpg in city and highway driving, respectively. Other options range from 14 to 21 mpg in the city and 19 to 20 mpg on the highway.
Interior
The 2022 Suburban provides a spacious interior capable of seating seven people and accommodating a large amount of cargo. The legroom in the first and second rows measures 44.5 and 42 inches, respectively, while the third row offers a decent 36.7 inches. The cargo volume is 41.5 cubic feet with all the rows up but expands to 93.8 cubic feet behind the second row and 144.7 cubic feet behind the first.
The center stack features an Infotainment 3 touchscreen that measures 8 or 10.2 inches depending on your trim. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility are standard. An optional entertainment system gets you a sizable 12.3-inch screen behind each of the front-row seats.
Safety Features
Standard safety features across all trim levels of the 2022 Suburban are a tire pressure monitor system, front and rear park assist, and the Chevy Safety Assist package. The LS, LT, RST, Z71, and Premier trims come standard with a rear-vision camera. The High Country trim adds surround vision, rear pedestrian alert, a head-up display, and a rear camera mirror as standard features.
