Whether you’re in the mood for cajun spice or hearty barbeque smoked over the open flame, Lafayette, LA has no shortage of great restaurants. We’ve put together a list of our favorite joints to grab takeout or delivery.
1. Bon Temps Grill
This restaurant is run by a couple of local boys who grew up eating authentic Cajun and Creole cuisine. They brought their love of food to this superb restaurant. The menu is chock full of “swamp cuisine” favorites such as crawfish pot pie and marinated alligator bites. Trust us, alligator does indeed taste like chicken.
2. Prejean’s
For Cajun dining specializing in seafood, you should check out this local gem. For over 40 years, this restaurant has been serving up classics such as seafood gumbo and southern-fried catfish.
For those with a healthy appetite, check out the seafood platter which is a plate piled sky-high with fried goodies.
3. Broaddus Burgers
Even burgers get a cajun twist in Lafayette. Broaddus offers a wide variety of signature burgers, or you can build your own. We recommend the Rajin Cajun, but make sure you have plenty of water to cool the fire in your mouth.
For those watching their diet, two meatless burger options are available. Even the buns are customizable. Fried eggplant or portobello choices will satisfy both those looking for something different and those limiting gluten in their diets.
4. Scratch Farm Kitchen
For that farm to table experience, look no farther than this rustic restaurant. The owners pride themselves on using local farmers for their produce.
Add that to an ever-changing seasonal menu and freshly made juices like lavender lemonade, and you have a place worth checking out. The restaurant also offers a brunch menu for early risers.
5. Tchoup’s MidCity Smokehouse
This newcomer is already earning rave reviews. The owners realized there was a need for an authentic barbeque in town. From the size of the lines outside the door, we think they were on to something.
Reasonable prices and great food are part of the secret to this restaurant’s success. The other part is the neighborhood feel. Check out the house when you grab your takeout, the owners remodeled an actual mid-century home. Don’t forget to say hi to the puppy as well!
6. Uncle T’s Oyster Bar
Just a bit out of town lies a special hole in the wall joint famous for serving up mouth-watering oysters. Whichever way you like your Gulf oysters, Uncle T’s can serve them. Fried, grilled, raw, and even candy charbroiled, this place does it all.
If oysters aren’t your thing, the menu has other entrees. The soft shell crab po’boys are a local delicacy, and we dare you to eat just one of the boudin egg rolls.
After you’ve eaten your fill of oysters and po’boys, consider taking a walk at the best car lot in town. Visit Service Chevrolet Cadillac today and check out our wide inventory of vehicles. We’ve been serving the Lafayette community since 1972: let us show you why.
