As a Chevy dealer, we might be a bit biased (we’ll admit that), but the Chevy Colorado is one of our absolute favorite vehicles on the road and the midsize truck that places first in our hearts. It’s easy for us to say that, and you’d probably expect it from us, but we’re willing to do more than simply put that opinion out there and call it a day. We’ll back it up with some clear examples of things the Colorado can do and features it has that are some of the reasons we think so highly of this remarkable pickup. You don’t have to agree with us, of course, but one good look at what the Chevy Colorado brings to the road makes it easy to see why we (and plenty of truck drivers) rate it so highly year after year.

Feature #1: Powerful Engines and Bold Performance

One thing that always impresses us about the Colorado is the remarkable power that Chevy packs into it to ensure that driving is enjoyable every day. Looking at the 2024 Colorado as an example, it has two engines on offer: a standard 2.7L Turbo that provides 237 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque and a TurboMax powertrain with 310 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque. This TurboMax, in particular, is incredible, and you’ll actually find it in the full-size Silverado 1500 from Chevy. Word is that it will become the standard engine in every Colorado, starting with the 2025 model, which makes this even better. You can get the Colorado with either two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive to create the kind of driving experience you prefer. Plus, you’ll find large wheels and tires on this truck to enhance your time on the road even further.

Feature #2: Impressive Towing and Payload Ratings

Remarkable power from engines is one thing, but if the engineering of the truck around that engine is not at the same level, then it does not mean much. You can have all the power in the world, but if you pair that with a weak frame or poor design, then it does not translate into capability that matters. Chevy understands this, and it shows with the Colorado, which has excellent towing and payload ratings every year. Features and options can change these numbers, of course, but when properly equipped, the 2024 Colorado offers up to 1,684 lbs of payload capacity with more than 41 cu.ft. of cargo space in the bed for your stuff. Even better, with its TurboMax engine, the Chevy Colorado provides 7,700 lbs of maximum towing capacity, the best you can find with a midsize truck.

Feature #3: Multiple Off-Road Trims Available

Midsize trucks like the Colorado are a terrific choice for an off-road vehicle due to their combination of smaller size (compared to a full-size pickup) and rugged durability. Their size makes them perfect for maneuvering on narrow or challenging paths and trails, but you can still get powerful engines that provide great enough performance to tackle any obstacle. Chevy understands this well, and you have numerous options for an off-road Colorado these days, allowing you to choose the combination of features that lets you go where you want. Looking at the 2024 Colorado, for example, it has a Trail Boss trim featuring a two-inch factory-lifted off-road suspension, 32-inch all-terrain tires, and an automatic locking rear differential for great performance on the trail. You can take things even further with the ZR2 model that has a three-inch lifted high-performance suspension featuring DSSV Multimatic dampers, 33-inch multi-terrain tires, off-road rocker protectors, and much more.

Feature #4: Remarkable Standard Tech Features

As impressive as those off-road features are, we’re just as blown away by the fantastic technology Chevy has packed into the Colorado. Looking at the 2024 model, even the standard features are some of the best in the industry, including an 11.3-inch Infotainment display with Google built-in and an 11-inch color Driver Information Center. Again, these are found in every 2024 Colorado. A six-speaker sound system, remote keyless entry, numerous USB ports, and single-zone climate control are all standard. You even get a steering wheel with mounted controls, plus wireless support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in every model. Of course, a number of upgrades and options are available, like keyless entry and start, adaptive cruise control, a wireless charging pad, and more if you want to enhance your time on the road.

Feature #5: The Standard Chevy Safety Assist Package

It’s fun and easy to get starry-eyed about big horsepower and towing numbers or some of the best off-road features in the industry. But we’re also concerned with how well a midsize truck like this works as a daily driver, where things like safety technology really come into play. Every model comes with the Chevy Safety Assist suite of driver assistance technologies, which includes a Forward Collision Alert to warn you of a potential crash and Automatic Emergency Braking to help you avoid it. You’ll also find Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking in every 2024 Colorado, along with Lane Keep Assist with a Lane Departure Warning and IntelliBeam automatic high beams that can turn off to avoid blinding drivers in oncoming traffic. Enhanced safety systems like Rear Cross Traffic Braking and Blind Zone Steering Assist are also available.

Feature #6: Impressive Options to Enhance Your Drive

Although there are plenty of great standard features for the Colorado inside and out, Chevy offers a wide range of extra options and packages to elevate your drive even further. We’ve touched on some already when it comes to tech and safety systems, but there are plenty more to consider. For example, there’s an available EZ-Lift and Lower tailgate for the 2024 Colorado that lets you raise and lower the rear tailgate easily with remote lock and unlock functionality. You can also get an available StowFlex Tailgate that provides you with additional storage space inside the tailgate itself. Add things like heated, power-adjustable side mirrors, auxiliary off-road lighting, and leather seating inside, and you’ve got a remarkable midsize truck that you will look forward to driving each day.

Feature #7: The Colorado ZR2 Bison Edition

We already talked about the impressive off-road trims for the Chevy Colorado, but there’s one more unique option that’s so remarkable that we need to address it on its own. If you go with the incredibly capable ZR2 model, then you can choose an available Bison Edition to take the unbelievable abilities and off-road functionality of your pickup even further. Developed in partnership with American Expedition Vehicles (AEV), the ZR2 Bison includes 17-inch beadlock capable wheels wrapped in massive 35-inch multi-terrain tires, plus five boron steel skid plates to protect the transfer case, rear differential, and other parts. This beast has AEV-stamped steel front and rear bumpers, including heavy-duty cast recovery points on the rear bumper, plus AEV wheel flares and much more. With its unique features, you get best-in-class ground clearance of 12.2 inches, letting you go further than any other midsize pickup out there.

See What Else the Chevy Colorado Can Do

Honestly, we could keep going with this list of amazing features to showcase what we love about the Chevy Colorado, but we think you get the point. The Colorado has been smartly designed with tremendous power, engineered for bold towing and payload potential, and built to take you anywhere you want to go with amazing off-road trims and options. It’s clear that Chevy is here to deliver whatever you want in a midsize truck; the Colorado is the perfect expression of Chevy’s uniquely capable approach to pickup design. This is a fantastic daily driver that can help you enjoy your commute, let you tackle weekend gardening or home improvement projects, and easily get you to your favorite campsite.
