17-EquinoxWhen you’re shopping for a family car, there are several components that are probably high on your list of priorities. For most parents, these include safety, functionality, comfort, and plenty of interior space. The 2017 Chevrolet Equinox brings it all, along with a few high-end extras, at a price that’s affordable.

Interior Comfort

The cabin of the 2017 Equinox is especially comfortable with features that help it stand out among other vehicles in the compact crossover segment. The base model comes with sliding and reclining second-row seats, offering maximum comfort on longer trips, along with soft cloth upholstery and a partially power-adjustable driver seat. Upgrading to one of the three other trims offers interior features like leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated front seats, and automatic climate control.

With these impressive interior comfort aspects, you and your passengers can better enjoy the ride whether you’re heading to school, work, or taking the vehicle on a road trip.

Safety Features

Every trim level of the 2017 Equinox comes equipped with plenty of standard safety features. These include stability and traction control, front seat side-impact and side-curtain air bags, a rearview camera, OnStar emergency telecommunications, and antilock disc brakes. With OnStar, you can get emergency assistance by pressing a button, and you’ll also have access to stolen vehicle assistance, automatic crash notification services, and remote door unlocking.

On the upper two trims, you can also add blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and rear parking sensors. The top Premier trim also has optional features like lane departure warning and forward collision alert. The 2017 Equinox earned four out of five stars in overall crash protection in government crash testing. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded it the top rating of “Good” in several areas, including roof strength, small-overlap frontal-offset, side impact, and moderate-overlap frontal-offset.

Impressive Fuel Efficiency

As a parent, you’re probably looking for a family car that gets good gas mileage. Some of the larger SUVs and minivans return single-digit mileage estimates, so this is another area in which the 2017 Equinox shines. Front-wheel drive models with the base four-cylinder engine get an estimated 21 miles per gallon in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. The estimates drop slightly with available all-wheel drive, although it’s probably worth it if you live in a cold, snowy climate. This SUV is also available with a powerful 3.6-liter V6 engine, and the EPA estimates with this unit come in at 20 mpg combined, or 17 mpg city and 24 mpg highway with front-wheel drive.

Plenty of Space

Although the Equinox falls into the compact crossover segment, it feels roomier than some of the midsize SUV options. The backseat is very roomy with enough space to install a rear-facing child car seat without sacrificing too much room up front. It also has 31.5 cubic feet of storage when the rear seats are in use, but folding them down increases the capacity to 63.7 cubic feet.
