2020 Chevy Tahoe and SuburbanThe Tahoe and the Suburban are very similar vehicles in the Chevy lineup. The most significant difference between the two is the size, with the Suburban offering a much larger cargo area. Both of these vehicles make excellent family haulers with room for up to nine passengers depending on the configuration, and for 2020 they both received some minor upgrades and additional features. The Tahoe or Suburban, which full-size SUV is right for you?

The Size

The Suburban is one of the largest SUVs you can find on the market. If you have a large family and you need to haul a lot of gear, this is the SUV for you. It offers a total of 121.7 cubic feet of cargo space if you fold down both the second and the third-row seats. With all the seats up, the Suburban has a 39.3 cubic cargo area, which is significantly larger than the Tahoe, which has 15.3 cubic feet back there. With both back rows folded down, the smaller Tahoe opens up to provide 94.7 cubic feet of storage area.

The Power

Both the Suburban and the Tahoe have the same engines. The base is a 5.3-liter V-8 with 355 horsepower and a six-speed automatic transmission. There is also a 6.2-liter V-8 available with 420 horsepower, and this has a 10-speed automatic transmission. The size difference between the two vehicles is what makes the difference in performance. The heavier Suburban can tow up to 8,300 pounds, while the Tahoe can handle up to 8,600 pounds.

The Trim Levels

Chevy offers both the Tahoe and the Suburban in three different trims. The entry-level LS has side assist steps, heated side door mirrors, and 18-inch alloy wheels. Bumping up to the LT adds a power liftgate in the rear and a locking rear differential. The top-level Premier trim has Magnetic Ride Control, keyless entry, power-folding side mirrors with memory, and 20-inch alloy wheels. The Premier also has fog lights and HID headlights.

The Safety Systems

You’ll get the same standard and available safety features in both of these SUVs. A rearview camera comes standard along with Chevy’s Teen Driver Mode, and you also get rear park assist. The LT adds lane departure warning and low-speed emergency braking, while the Premier adds front and rear park assist, a blind-spot monitoring system, lane departure warning, and a lane-keeping assist system.

The Enhanced Driver Alert Package is an available option and comes with low-speed forward emergency braking for the LS. This package also has a Safety Alert Seat, adaptive headlights, and forward-collision warning.

Interior Features

All trims for both models have a power-adjustable driver’s seat with power lumbar support, Bluetooth, and an 8-inch touch screen display. Moving up through the trims adds heated front seats, a premium Bose stereo, and a surround-sound system if you have the Premier. This high-end model also comes with heated second-row seats and a power-folding third row.
