Periodical tire rotation is an important part of good car maintenance. Car tires tend to wear down unevenly, which can cause problems with your handling and safety on the road. The solution is to have technicians at your local Chevy dealer or Cadillac dealer swap around your tires every 6,000 to 8,000 miles. Let’s take a look at three key ways regular rotation keeps both your car and driving experience in tip-top condition.

3 Benefits of Getting a Tire Rotation at Your Local Chevy or Cadillac Dealer

Better Handling and Responsiveness

As you no doubt know, both Chevys and Cadillacs offer a wonderfully smooth ride with superb power steering and easy handling. But when one or two tires are allowed to wear down significantly more than the others, the quality of handling always diminishes, no matter the vehicle. You might find your steering and cornering aren’t quite as effortless as before.

Your Cadillac or Chevy Dealer Will Find Underlying Flaws

It’s unfortunate that tires wear down unevenly. The main cause is usually unbalanced weight at the front and rear of the vehicle.

Minor, undetected faults can also cause uneven tire wear, such as incorrect tire pressure, misaligned wheels, bent axles, or damaged wheels from potholes. When you take your car in for rotation, not only will the technician change around your tires, but they’ll also identify and fix any such underlying issues.

Longer Lasting Tires

It’s generally recommended to replace all four tires at once, even if a couple of your tires are still in good condition. So by having your tires wear down more evenly with regular rotation, you’re putting off the need to buy a new set.

This might mean you have to replace your tires only four times over the lifetime of your car, rather than six or seven times. That’s potentially thousands of dollars in savings.

Safer Drivers and Passengers

Perhaps the most important reason to have frequent rotation is that it reduces the chance of road accidents. When the tread depth of any tire nears 2/32 of an inch, you have an increased risk of losing traction and going into a skid. This risk is far higher on the slippery roads of winter. By spreading the rate of wear across all of your tires, you’re preventing one or two tires from wearing too thin too fast.

Rotation also reduces the risk of blowouts. Cuts, cracks, and blisters weaken tire rubber over time, putting it at risk of sudden failure. If one or two tires are under excessive pressure for too long, they’re more susceptible to this kind of damage. It’s always safer to spread the load with rotation.
