There is just something about summer that energizes us and makes us eager to get out of the house. Lafayette, LA is the perfect place to explore during the summer. Whether you enjoy exploring museums or you prefer spending time outdoors, we’ve got a few options for summertime activities that will leave you satisfied.

1. Vermilionville

Vermilionville is a historical village located right in the center of Lafayette. Open six days a week, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., this historical walking area is a great place to spend a summer’s day. This place has numerous educational, dining, and shopping opportunities. In addition, at the Bayou Vermilion, you can rent canoes and kayaks to explore the water. Nothing says summer like a day spent on the lake!

2. Lafayette Science Museum

What better time is there to touch up on your knowledge than summertime?  Located Downtown, this museum harbors over 1,000 paintings, prints, and sculptures. There are tons of interactive exhibits exploring paleontology, marine biology, and geology. The all-digital planetarium on the second floor cannot be missed!

3. Lafayette Farmers and Artisans Market

Lafayette Farmers Market is both a practical and enjoyable way to invest in the community this summer. Open every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., you can be sure to find the freshest produce here. As you stroll past the booths, you’ll also be able to enjoy beautiful music from the weekly performers. Check out the calender on their website to check for future performances!

3. Evangeline State Park

Founded in 1934, Evangeline State Park has been hosting visitors for many summers. As the oldest state park in Louisiana, it should come as no surprise that this place is rich in history. If you look along the bank of Bayou Teche, you’ll find a reproduction of the Acadian Farmstead. This farmstead shows how a single-family farm would have appeared in the 1800s. If you want a truly immersive experience, this is the place to be.

4. Lake Martin Rookery

We’ve said it once and we will say it again: no summer is complete without a day at the lake! Unlike Bayou Vermilion, there are no watersports to be found here. Instead, this place is great if you enjoy spotting wildlife. Known as a bird watcher’s paradise, you can find lots of friends in the treetops. Have you ever really been to Louisiana if you haven’t seen an alligator? Keep an eye on the lake for a friendly surprise!

Lafayette has no shortage of summer activities to keep you busy and sunkissed all summer long! With the panoramic fixed-glass roof in the Chevrolet Silverado, you can soak up all of the summer sunshine even during your commute. Stop by Service Chevrolet Cadillac to browse our inventory.
