1. The Lafayette Museum

Founded in 1954, The Lafayette Museum, also known as The Alexandre Mouton House, was named after Louisiana’s 11th governor, who resided there in the 19th century. Inside this historic home, you will find many artifacts and stories to go along with them. Visitors can tour the home Tuesday through Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm or Sundays and Mondays by appointment. 

2. Vermilionville Historic Village

The Vermilionville Historic Village is a living museum dedicated to preserving the history of the area’s diverse populations through the 19th century. Open seven days a week, you will find many historic structures and staff members dressed in period wear to guide you. This historic village is the perfect place to load the whole family into your Chevy Tahoe and go down to Virmilionville for a fun and education-filled day. 

3. Acadian Cultural Center

This cultural center is a free museum focused on Cajun life, exhibiting the history of Louisiana and its cultures. Located inside the Jean Lafitte National Park and Preserve, the Acadian Cultural Center features an award-winning film every hour and in-person talks with the park rangers.
