Lafayette, LA is the most populous city in Louisiana, and with good reason. For starters, it’s located next to the Vermillion River, which makes it a great destination for nature lovers. From enjoying a casual picnic next to the river to hiking and biking on the trails around the city, there are lots of fun outdoor activities that will leave you craving for more.

1. Hiking

You don’t have to break the bank to have a swell time in Lafayette. Just take a hike on one of the trails that are all over the city. Most trails are open for pets as long as they are on a leash so you can come with your dog as well. This is the perfect way to take the whole family on an adventure as you connect with nature and draw in some positive energy from mother nature.

2. Fishing

You can enjoy both saltwater and freshwater fishing around Lafayette. The Atchafalaya Basin and Lake Martin both have some pristine banks on which you can cast your line for some bluegills, bass, and lots of other fish. A couple of hours away, you can also do some offshore fishing and catch some good-to-eat saltwater species.

3. Camping

The Lafayette area has lots of camping opportunities that you will be spoilt for choice. From the sugarcane plantations in Iberia Parish to the Indian Creek recreation center, you are sure to have a fabulous time with friends and family. Granted, the summer heat and humidity can be extreme but the joy of being outdoors and enjoying wildlife will make it worthwhile.

4. Bike Tours

If you are into biking, you will love what Lafayette has to offer. More experienced cyclists can take longer routes, like the 13-mile Recovered route or the 8-mile Wet Bayou route. Less experienced cyclists can take the shorter Broadmoor route, which is only 1.2 miles. Suffice it to say there is something for everyone.

5. Nature and Wildlife Tours

Start the day on an airboat to see alligators, fish, and birds, and then end your day by visiting the 35,000-acre Lacassine National Wildlife refuge. If time allows you, check out the Chico State Park and Cypress Island Preserve Visitor Center. Whichever destination you pick Lafayette has so much to offer that you can rest assured you won’t be disappointed.

6. Snorkeling and Scuba Diving

Your Lafayette is not complete until you take a dive into the deep and enjoy the beautiful aquatic life. If you are a beginner, you can get a couple of lessons at various locations that offer scuba diving and snorkeling lessons. After a session or two, you should be ready to wear your snorkeling mask and enjoy the breathtaking nature beneath the waters.

A reliable and comfy car will make your Lafayette tour even better. The last thing you want to deal with is a mechanical issue when touring around the city. Choose the car of your dreams at Service Chevrolet Cadillac and start your vacation in style.
