1. Veteran’s Park Trail

This Broussard trail offers a smooth, easy ride for cyclists of all abilities. Running past a placid lake and featuring memorials to servicemen and women from various branches of the military, it’s a peaceful and interesting ride. The flat and wide trail is about as easy as they come, so this is the perfect place to bring kids who’ve just ditched their training wheels!

After you’ve finished your cycle, why not enjoy the other amenities the park has to offer? Take the kids to the playground or have lunch at one of the covered picnic spaces. This is a very accessible trail and is also suitable for those with wheelchairs or other mobility equipment.

2. UL Bike Trail

This 5-kilometer path links the local UL campus with the University Common. Starting close to the Ira Nelson Horticultural Center and running through University Research Park, the path has enjoyed several expansions over the years to reach its current length.

Despite the name, you don’t have to be affiliated with the university to use this path. It’s open to all and with its wide, smooth path with minimal elevation, it’s suitable for riders of all ages. There is plenty of parking nearby, making it easier than ever for you to enjoy cycling and taking in the pleasant campus atmosphere.

3. Acadiana Park Mountain Bike Trails

If you’re looking for a bit more of a challenge to get your teeth into, head to Acadiana Park. Winding through the trees, you’ll find no fewer than 8 mountain bike trails. With twists, turns, somewhat bumpy surfaces, and mild gradients, these trails might be better suited to more experienced riders. But the wide range of routes means you’re sure to find something that matches your ability level.

Maintained by the city’s Mountain Bike group, these paths are designed for riders by riders. There’s also a nature station and other attractions in the park if you want more after you’ve finished your cycle.

4. Atakapa-Ishak Trail

Connecting the city with several other nearby communities including Breaux Bridge, Henderson, Krotz Spring, and Port Barre, this is a mixed on and off-road trail. Offering beautiful views of the local area, Atakapa-Ishak Trail was named in honor of the Native American tribes who once inhabited the area.

Find an entry point in the downtown area, then enjoy this long, well-maintained trail that passes by rivers, meadows, and dense woodland, along with landmarks like Beaver Park and the Regional Airport.
