When people think of Caribbean food, the main dishes that come to mind are jerk chicken and rice ‘n peas. However, these dishes are both Jamaican, and the Caribbean is composed of many other islands than just Jamaica, all of which boast their own unique cooking styles and flavors. Fortunately, in Lafayette, LA, we have no shortage of excellent Caribbean restaurants that serve incredible food from all over the region. Here are some of the best.

A Taste of the Tropics: 3 Caribbean Restaurants Worth the Drive Near Lafayette, LA

Cafe Habana City

Cuba, the largest island in the archipelago, is often overlooked when it comes to Caribbean cuisines. However, it is also among the best in the region. Famous Cuban dishes include tamales and ropa vieja (and no, the Cuban sandwich is not from Cuba!), and you will find these and more on Cafe Habana City’s massive menu. If you’ve never tried Cuban food before, get down to 911 Bertrand Drive and give it a try! You won’t regret it.

Cuba is the home of the world-famous cocktail, the Mojito, so, of course, Cafe Habana City serves the best Mojito in the area. However, if you are going to treat yourself to this delicious blend of rum, lime, and mint, then please remember that it is illegal to allow minors to consume alcohol. Also, ensure you drink responsibly and refrain from driving afterward.

Patacon Latin Cuisine

Venezuela is another country that is often forgotten about when it comes to the Caribbean region, but that doesn’t stop it from producing some of the best food. Popular dishes include the unique patacon (essentially a sandwich but using double-fried plantains instead of bread) and arepas; mini maize pockets that have been consumed since pre-Columbian times. Situated at 308 Bertrand Drive, Patacon Latin Cuisine is the best place to try this exotic and interesting cuisine.

Di Jerk Stop

We can’t do a Caribbean list without featuring at least one Jamaican joint. Located at 4416 Johnston St #9D, Di Jerk Stop is the best Jamaican spot in town, and here you’ll find proper authentic jerk chicken and BBQ meats.

Di Jerk Stop is a great place to kick back and relax while you eat. However, all the delicious food is also available for take-out if you wish. This means you can park up somewhere nice in your new Chevrolet Trailblazer and enjoy your food in peace.

After eating at these places, you’ll begin to understand some of the major differences between Caribbean cuisines, and you’ll never think of only Jamaican jerk chicken again! From rich Cuban stews to creative Venezuelan patacons, Lafayette has it all within easy driving distance. Drop by Service Chevrolet Cadillac on your way out, and we can get your car in perfect condition for your night out.
