Your car overheating is a dangerous situation. Your engine operates at a high temperature for efficiency, but this temperature has to be controlled. If the engine continues to overheat, numerous seals and gaskets will fail. The cylinders, pistons, and engine block are some of the components that can suffer permanent damage. Your Chevy dealer can fix this problem. These are a few signs your engine is overheating.

Advice From Your Chevy Dealer: What To Do With a Car Overheating

Switch Off Your AC

Switching off your AC may seem strange, but the cooling effect of the AC is only felt in the cabin. The AC depends on several components, including the condenser and compressor to operate. These components, particularly the compressor, generate heat inside the engine compartment. Removing this extra heat-generating source can be the difference between serious and no damage to your engine.

In addition, turn up the cabin heater to the maximum. The heater draws hot air from the engine compartment into the cabin to warm it. When the heater is working, the temperature in your engine will drop as extra heat is drawn away from it. Hot air in the cabin can be unpleasant, especially in summer, but it can protect your engine.

Pull Over ASAP

Combustion generates large quantities of heat, as the process uses compressing fuel and air under high pressure and then igniting the mixture. Under normal circumstances, your cooling system will control engine temperature. The cooling system increases and decreases its speed depending on the temperature inside your engine compartment.

We advise pulling over in a safe space as quickly as possible, then switching the engine off. When the engine is off, heat should automatically drain out of your engine into the surrounding air. Be careful of opening the hood, especially if the temperature gauge is very high. Allow at least 15 minutes to enable the engine to cool.
