Engine problems can seem to appear without warning. Your engine is an extremely complex piece of engineering and requires regular services to keep it working efficiently. If you see signs of a problem, your Chevy dealer and Cadillac dealer in Lafayette, LA, can fix it for you. These are some signs that you need to visit us.

3 Engine Problems You Should Always Get Fixed at Your Chevy Dealer or Cadillac Dealer

Timing Chain Problem

The timing chain in your engine connects the camshaft at the top of the engine with the crankshaft at the bottom of your engine. This connection enables the top and bottom components to synchronize. The chain is vital, as it controls the opening and closing of engine valves and the movement of the pistons.

Engine valves and piston movement must happen precisely, as a slight delay can lead to damage to your engine. If a valve closes at the wrong time, for example, it will be struck by the piston. This will bend the valve and damage the piston. We can test your chain and replace it if it’s worn or damaged.

Blocked Radiator

The radiator acts as a heat exchange mechanism for your engine. The coolant in your engine absorbs heat and transports it to the radiator. Once inside the radiator, the heat in the coolant is removed by airflow via the radiator grille. The coolant is recirculated, and the process continues until your engine temperature drops.

Over time, your radiator can become blocked. The coolant absorbs dirt and other debris as it flows, and this debris is deposited at the bottom of the radiator. This debris will build up and block the radiator tubes and hoses. These blockages will prevent hot coolant from entering the radiator and being cooled. Our technicians can remove the blockages by flushing your radiator to clear out the debris.

Starting Problems

Every driver depends on their car starting as soon as they hit the button. If your car is struggling to start, you could have a weak battery, a failing alternator, or a damaged starter motor. The battery sends an electrical charge to the starter motor, and the starter motor initiates the crank that starts your engine. This process depends on the alternator to supply the battery with the electricity it needs.

If you hear a click when you try and start your car, the problem is either battery or alternator related. If you don’t hear a click, the starter motor is damaged. Our technicians will need to investigate to find the root of the problem then we’ll repair it.
