2018-Chevy-truck-grillWhen it comes to pickup trucks, picking the best becomes a little tricky because of the neck-to-neck competition.  In this article, we are going to highlight and compare some prominent features of both the 2018 Chevrolet Colorado and the Chevrolet Silverado 1500. To determine which truck is right for you, you’ll have to focus on the features you need or want the most. So, without further ado, let’s get right into it.

Pricing

The base 2018 Chevrolet Silverado costs $8,000 more than the base 2018 Chevrolet Colorado. If you opt for the top trims, the Silverado High Country costs $51,800 (MSRP) which is almost $10,000 more than the Colorado ZR2 (MSRP $41,625).

Safety

According to results from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration crash tests of both cars, the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado has a 5-star overall safety rating compared to the 2018 Colorado, which has an overall 4-star rating.

Advanced safety features and options include a rearview camera which is available in both trucks. Chevy’s unique Teen Driver System with report card analysis is also an integral part of the safety system of both trucks. Silverado’s safety system however, has been updated and is more advanced and now boasts a low-speed auto braking system in addition to the forward collision warning, safety alert seats, and blind spot alert.

Comfort

The 2018 Silverado boasts a comfortable interior with ample space in the rear-seat area. The 2018 Silverado being the bigger model offers more cab room than the Colorado. The Colorado’s back-seat doesn’t offer enough as much leg room for the average adult as the Silverado, but it’s great for accommodating children. So whether your passengers are big or small, both trucks offer an interior that brings comfort.

Towing and Cargo Space

Asking yourself what your day to day cargo will look like will help determine which model fits your needs better. The Silverado has an impressive 12,500 pounds of towing capacity with a payload capacity of 2,250 pounds. On the other hand, the 2018 Colorado offers 7,700 pounds of towing and 1,600 pounds payload capacity.

Carrying an 8-foot bed, the Silverado offers three bed-lengths. The 2018 Colorado offers 6’ 2” bed lengths at maximum. This means that the Silverado can easily carry a standard plywood sheet (close tailgate) whereas you’ll have to leave the tailgate open to load the same plywood sheet if you have the 2018 Colorado.

Fuel Efficiency

Colorado’s base four-cylinder engine is more fuel efficient than that of the 2018 Silverado 1500. The Colorado features an estimated 20/26 MPG (two-wheel drive) while the 2018 Silverado features an estimated 18/24 MPG with its standard V6 engine. It’s worth noting that you can have the Colorado customized to include a Duramax 2.8L Turbo-Diesel engine if you would like the truck to increase fuel efficiency and travel 22/30 MPG.

Off-Road Performance

The 2018 Chevy Colorado boasts technological upgrades for better  off-road performance. That’s not to say the 2018 Silverado 1500 can’t handle its own on off-road paths, but the Colorado has more features and capabilities overall. Colorado’s front features a new design and the approach angle is better than before. Rock rails and skid plates avoid the possibility of damage from rocks when driving off-road. The Colorado ZR2 features better suspension and high-quality shock absorbers.
