The signs that you need a transmission repair are numerous. You need to get to the Chevy dealer when these signs make themselves known. That way, you’ll avoid as much difficulty as possible, and we can get you fixed up promptly.
1. Gear Problems
Having trouble switching gears is a common sign that you’re having transmission problems. Slipping gears is another sign that something’s amiss. Slipping gears can be a sign of various issues that range from minor to major, but trouble switching gears is almost always something you don’t have to worry much about. It’s generally a sign of low transmission fluid.
2. New Noises
There are several noises associated with transmission issues including humming, whining, and clunking. Listen closely for these noises, as they may be an early sign that something is going with your transmission. You should listen especially closely while your vehicle is in neutral, as that’s when strange noises are most likely to occur with transmission problems.
3. Fluid Leaking
A fluid leak is thankfully not too serious, and it’s usually easy to catch. You might notice a transmission fluid leak by the appearance of a sweet-smelling pool of red fluid under your vehicle. You may also notice this leak from the inside, as your transmission fluid level will start falling faster than usual.
Be sure to check your fluid levels regularly. This will ensure you catch leaks from the inside when they occur; fluid levels that fall faster than usual are almost always a sign of a leak.
4. Shaking and Grinding
If your vehicle shakes or grinds when you change gears, then you probably have an issue with your transmission. You’ll rarely find this issue in manual vehicles, but it’s extremely common in vehicles with an automatic transmission.
5. Burning Odor
A burning odor and may indicate that your transmission fluid is old and burning up. It’s also a sign that your transmission system might be overheating. If your transmission system is overheating, then you need to pull over to ensure your vehicle cools down. The cooling takes about 30 minutes. Once your vehicle is cool, then you can get to the dealer to have a technician check on your Chevy.
