Children's MuseumThe weekends are an excellent time to reconnect with your family after a busy work and school week. If the weather is less then ideal, there are still plenty of options to get everyone out of the house. If the skies are blue, grab your favorite shoes and explore them together. There are several family-friendly activities near Lafayette that offer something for everyone to enjoy.

LARC’s Acadian Village

Explore the culture and history of the area around Lafayette with a trip to LARC’S Acadian Village. You can tour the village Monday through Saturday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. There are two different tour options available. Explore the property at your own pace with a paid, self-guided tour in English or French. Entry is free for children under four and military with ID have free entry, while students under age 17 pay $6.51. Adults pay $8.68, except seniors who get a discount at $7.59. You can also set up a guided group tour for groups of 20 or more.

During your tour, you’ll have the chance to explore the many houses and buildings on the property, including a replica blacksmith shop and the Bernard House. The Bernard House is the oldest building on the property dating back to 1800. You can also visit the General Store to pick up some fantastic souvenirs.

Children’s Museum of Acadiana

Do your children like interacting with different things and letting their imaginations run wild? Make a trip to the Children’s Museum of Acadiana, where they can explore a variety of hands-on exhibits. The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday. Admission costs $7 for adults and children over one year old. Children under 12 months enter free.

Sone of the fun exhibits include the Ami-The Acadian Ambulance. The full-size ambulance includes lights and sirens, and lets children enjoy role-playing. If they like to build and work with their hands, head for architecture alley where they can use blocks and Legos to make anything they want.  The bubble factory lets them have fun with creating different shaped bubbles. They can also step inside a bubble!

Kart Ranch

Kart Ranch is a great place to spend the day with your family as you burn off pent up energy.  This family-friendly entertainment center has something for everyone. Younger family members under the age of 12 can enjoy the indoor soft play area with a ball pit and bounce area. Older family members enjoy challenging themselves on the rock wall or playing their favorite video games in the arcade.

Challenge your family to a game of adventure golf. Shoes are required on the 18-hole mini-golf course. Adults must accompany children under the age of 10 on the course. The course features obstacles with a unique Louisiana flair.

As you plan your next family outing, make sure you have a camera on hand to capture special moments during the trip. Plan enough time to explore and enjoy the activity of your choice. Not having a deadline lets everyone relax and enjoy the activities.
