white tiger at Zoosiana in Lafayette, LAPlanning any kind of trip these days is difficult, particularly if you want to visit an attraction such as a zoo or museum. For this reason, if you’re considering a trip to Zoosiana, be sure to follow these tips to make your experience the best it can be.

Operating Days and Hours

This attraction, also known as the Zoo of Acadiana, is open every day of the week, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. There are some holidays that have limited hours and others when the zoo is entirely closed. For instance, on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, the zoo is open for only three hours, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The attraction is closed on New Year’s Day, Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.

Admission Fees

Admission to the zoo is $14.99 for visitors 13 years old and older. For children between the ages of three and 12, the rate is $9.99, and children under age three are free. Seniors who are at least 55 years old pay the discounted rate of $13.99. The zoo increases its price for special events, but these fees vary. You can also become a member for $29.99 per adult and $19.99 per child to get unlimited visits for a year.

Zoo Rules

There are some rules by which visitors must abide when visiting the zoo. For instance, for the safety of guests and animals, visitors must pay attention to all instructions and warnings regarding animal enclosures, barriers, and railings. Additionally, smoking is not allowed in any part of the zoo. You may not bring any pets, but service animals are an exception. To keep the animals safe, you cannot bring in any outside food or drinks, and take care not to litter.

The Animals

Before you head to the zoo, you will want to know what you plan to see and do. This zoo is home to over 1,000 animals that represent about 125 species. Favorite exhibits include giraffes, alligators, gibbons, and the white tiger. However, there are many more animals to explore in the park, including lemurs, macaws, tortoises, oryx, and others. A fun way to see many of these animals is to hop onto the Safari Express train that tours the zoo.

There are several interactive exhibits at the zoo as well, including the opportunity to feed the giraffes, hold and feed parakeets, and participate in the ZooLive Animal Show. Moreover, the zoo boasts a petting zoo, where you’ll be able to interact with donkeys, llamas, horses, pigs, and chickens, among other farm animals. Don’t forget to go to one or more of the Keeper Talks, where a zookeeper will present more information about certain animals each day.

COVID-19 Guidelines

As of July 13, 2020, the zoo is requiring all zoo visitors to wear a mask that covers their nose or mouth when entering the zoo. As long as you are able to maintain six feet of social distancing from other parties while outside, you may remove your mask while walking around the zoo. Additionally, you do not have to wear a mask while eating or drinking but must have one on while standing in line to order.

Planning ahead for a visit to the zoo has always been a good idea, but these days, it’s almost mandatory to ensure your trip goes well. If you need more tips for visiting the zoo, come by Service Chevrolet. Our friendly staff will tell you all you need to know to have a wonderful time!
