When it comes to finding great locations for photography, you will find Lafayette, LA, to be the perfect base to explore from. Whether you are interested in photographing nature or picturing the past, there is something for everyone to get excited about. Below are three great photo spots to get you started.

3 Great Photo Spots in and Around Lafayette, LA You Can Drive To

Wedell-Williams Aviation Museum

If something about fighter planes stirs your imagination, then getting the opportunity to photograph one close-up should not be missed. A trip to the Wedell-Williams Aviation Museum in Patterson will allow you to see and take photos of various planes throughout history, including an F-4 fighter jet.

The museum can be found at 118 Cotten Rd, around an hour’s drive southeast on the US-90. As you arrive, you will see sitting outside the museum the F-4 in all its glory, looking as if it is ready to reach for the sky. Inside the museum, you will be transported back to The Golden Age of Aviation with various planes from the past, some standing, others hanging from the roof, all magnificently restored.

Avery Island

Home to the famous Tabasco Sauce company, there are multiple photo opportunities you can take advantage of on a visit to Avery Island. Situated at 32 Wisteria Rd, it is about a 45-minute drive south on the US-90. Indeed, there is so much to see and photograph on this beautiful site that you should pack up your Chevy Bolt with enough supplies to make a day of it.

The Tabasco Museum is the main attraction, where you can picture yourself against giant Tabasco bottles. Perhaps more interesting to some might be the adjacent Jungle Gardens. Covering over 170 acres, the gardens include a bird sanctuary, a statute of Buddha, and various architectural features. If you are a serious photographer, you can buy a photo session on the grounds, and it will prevent other visitors from disturbing your shoot.

Urns of Justice

There are also many photo-worthy opportunities in Lafayette. One of the most unique is the Urns of Justice sculptures on either side of the John H Shaw Courthouse. The work is by Diana Moore and is a reinterpretation of the traditional Blind Justice images you find at many courts.

Here, the sculptures depict justice as a head. The top of the head is removed to create a recess, and its eyes are blindfolded with a depiction of the stripes of the American flag. The heads are around 5ft tall and sit on raised plinths, giving them an imposing presence. The artwork is situated at 800 Lafayette St, and there is plenty of parking available on the streets to the north and east of the courthouse.

The places described are just a taste of the possibilities for taking great photos that Lafayette and the surrounding area can offer. Of course, it is always good to have a comfortable journey when traveling to these locations.
